ISTP anime characters are familiar, especially in the MBTI personality explanation. According to the personality test, the MBTI personality types are simultaneously introverted, observant, thinking, and prospecting. Learning about these four traits might spark a series of anime characters in your brain.
ISTPs are usually kind, logical, and tolerant, a standard chain in many characters. So, let’s uncover some of the best ISTP anime characters and what makes them fall into one of the most unique personality types.
What is the ISTP personality?
ISTP is one of the 16 personalities. It stands for Introverted, Sensing, Thinking, and Perceiving. An ISTP usually performs best when alone and loves having quality time with others.
What are the characteristics of ISTP personality？
Regarding their general characteristics, ISTPs are practical, calm, logical, and independent. Moreover, they are very observant, so new experiences excite them the most.
Do ISTP personalities have individual differences?
While ISTPs have some common traits, individual differences are always there. For example, some ISTPs can be over-confident in their abilities while others can doubt themselves. Some have more of a logical brain, while others have creative brains. These things stem from their individual experiences, upbringing, and life experiences.

With that out of the way, let’s dive into our list of ISTP Anime Characters! These characters are in no particular order, and I will also include my opinions.
20. Kakashi Hatake (Naruto)
Kakashi is one of the most talented ninjas and teachers in the Naruto series, and his personality falls right under the ISTP personality type. Ever since childhood, he has shown little to no interest in friendships and has always been an observant ninja.
Even after he became an adult, Kakashi didn’t change much, kept his childlike and kind personality, but always thought above and beyond what an average person would be capable of. His attire consists of a cool-looking mask, which he’s hiding an extraordinary eye, a pair of regular ninja teaching clothes, and very cool spiky hair that every female inside and outside the anime world simps for.
I think Kakashi is the epitome of being an ISTP because even though he is an introverted person from the core, he’s always one step ahead of even the greatest thinkers and most brilliant characters in the series.
19. Sanji (One Piece)
While Sanji looks like the most extroverted person, he isn’t. Being a cook with no friends but enemies like Zoro and Sanji is romantic! He loves flirting but fumbles with every beautiful girl due to his random personality.
But when it comes to his battling abilities, Sanji becomes a literal beast. He is kind, calm, cool, and collected, giving him an edge whenever he’s fighting his most brutal battles. His demeanor can be compared to that of a secret agent, while his clothing consists of a fancy suit he loves to his heart.
In my opinion, Sanji makes a great ISTP anime character because he doesn’t like many people; he’s calmer than a wave of still water, and his observational skills make him the best cook in his crew and in One Piece.
18. Shota Aizawa (My Hero Academia)
If the ISTP personality had a face, it would be Shota Aizawa from My Hero Academia. He’s very logical and challenging with his students and dislikes interaction with them. Aizawa can come off as cold, numb, and impatient, but his discipline and motivation are worthy of accomendation.
He is a tall, slender man with messy hair and a face that looks like he hasn’t slept for decades. But behind this unkempt appearance is a sharp man when the battle arrives. While Aizawa seems like the kind of person anyone can fool, he’s the most robust character in the series.
I think Aizawa makes a great ISTP because even though he seems like he never pays attention, he’s always thinking about the enemy’s next move and counters with some of the most excellent strategies on the chessboard.
17. Jotaro Kujo (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventures)
Jotaro Kujo is one of the main protagonists from JoJo’s Bizzare Adventures. He has a rough outlook, clothes that make him look like a gangster, and is introverted enough to scare anyone away. He’s a 6’5 tall, young, and attractive lad with a bold hat, a strong jaw, and thick eyebrows.
Personality-wise, many people consider Jotaro a jerk since he’s a rough delinquent. However, he has a gentle heart with a mind that is highly wise, intelligent, and quick-witted.
Jotaros quickly lands within the ISTP personality type because he’s one of the sharpest characters while avoiding social situations as much as possible.
16. Garou (One Punch Man)
Now, Garou may be wondering. Garou, one of the main antagonists in One Punch Man, is known for his devilish appearance and hellish personality. But underneath all that hot mess, we have someone who is quite kind. He looks like another dumb, lousy guy, but his sharp senses always get him out of trouble regarding combat.
With his lean and muscular build, Garou is among the most handsome characters in the series.
15. Kobayashi (Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid)
Kobayashi is the main protagonist of Dragon Maid, a young woman with bright red hair tied in a ponytail, and she works as a computer programmer. She’s also flat-chested, which is her biggest insecurity when thrown into a world with some of the most provocative dragons.
When we talk about Kobayashi’s personality, she looks pretty cold at first glance, but honestly, she’s just kind-hearted and doesn’t want many people around her. She is always a deep-thinking person who looks at things on a deeper level.
Kobayashi falls under the ISTP category, although she shows little emotion and cares about everyone and everything deep inside.
14. Hak Son (Yona Of The Dawn)
Hak Son is the former leader and Chief of the Wind Tribe, but he doesn’t like many people talking to him despite his leadership role. He’s a tall, tough-looking, rowdy young man with broad shoulders and wears a classic traditional Japanese dress.
Hak is a sarcastic yet straightforward guy who dislikes playing much. But when it comes to his job, he’s serious, deep-thinking, and someone who loves to eradicate enemies in the most challenging battles.
Hak is a great ISTP anime character, as he is logical and kind. We have repeatedly seen him show his understanding and be helpful even to the people he didn’t know.
13. Machi Komacine (Hunter X Hunter)
Machi Komacine is a sixth-ranked solid Phantom Troupe group member known for its illegal activities. She’s a short young woman with a petite build and pink hair. She’s also one of the few Phantom Troupe members to wear traditional Japanese clothing, which makes her look like a female ninja.
Moving on to her personality, Machi is one of the coldest characters in the series, often not caring about what others are going through, except Hisoka. But that shows that for the people she loves, she can care for them a lot and even spend hours solving their problems.
Machi is an ISTP anime character because, on the surface, she looks like a cold-hearted character who doesn’t care. But deep inside, she’s a kind-hearted and logical girl who’s always overthinking.
12. Touka Kirishima (Tokyo Ghoul)
Touka Kirishima is a ghoul and an ex-waitress in Tokyo Ghoul. She wears a rabbit mask while hunting and can seem quite cold and numb to others who look at her personality from the surface.
Touka has a slender build with dark blue hair that has long bangs. She always wears a waitress uniform with a white shirt rolled up to her elbows. However, as a Rabbit, she wears a long coat jacket, a rabbit mask, and sometimes a wig. Personality-wise, Touka is a perfect mix of rage and kindness. Still, when we look at her character deeply, she is kind-hearted but very logical, making her an ideal ISTP anime character.
Touka is a well-written character; her rash personality comes from her abandonment issues. But a person like Kaneki, the main character, brings the best out of her, which is quite cute.
11. Kyo Sohma (Fruits Basket)
Kyo Sohma is the deuteragonist of the Fruits Basket series, and the spirit of a Cat curses him. He is charismatic and hot-blooded but quite socially awkward. Kyo is a tall, slender teenage boy who usually wears his school uniform.
Kyo can come off as short-tempered, stubborn, and sometimes reckless. However, that is a defensive mechanism to survive in this harsh world since he had quite a rough past. On the surface, Kyo might seem rude and brash, but behind all that smoke is a kid who uses his emotional intelligence to stay away from people as much as possible.
My opinion? Kyo embodies a traumatized ISTP anime character who avoids social interaction due to past hurt.
10. Levi Ackerman (Attack On Titan)
Levi Ackerman, or Captain Levi, is the squad captain within the Survey Corps in the Attack on Titan series. He is short, has straight back slick hair, and eyes that can look you dead in your soul. Levi wears the Survey Corps uniform and always has vertical maneuvering equipment. On the surface, Levi looks cold and rude and avoids social situations as much as possible. However, that’s just the tip of the iceberg. He’s a clean freak, and his personality likes to keep everything spot-clean. But when we saw Levi losing some of his teammates, he showed emotions and how much he cared for his teammates.
Levi has been consistently one of my favorite characters due to his tsundere-type personality. He looks tough and avoids social interaction, but we all know he’s just an ISTP who cares about everyone but rarely shows it.
9. Koyomi Araragi (Monogatari Series)
Koyomi is the main protagonist and a third-year high-school student who survived a Vampire attack during his spring break. He’s a young man with black hair and a medium complexion. He often wears casual attire, such as hoodies and pants. Mostly, he is a laid-back, socially awkward character who sometimes comes off as wholly asocial. Due to all his negative past experiences, he says that having friends would lower his integrity as a human. But with time, he opened up, started making friends, and started living an everyday life.
My personal view of Koyomi is that he’s a perfect depiction of the ISTP personality type because, with time, he opened up and started showing care and helping everyone achieve their goals.
8. Celestia Ludenberg (Danganronpa)
Celestia is a Hope’s Peak Academy student known as the Ultimate Gambler in the series. She stands at an average height and has a very skinny figure. Her cute gothic-styled outfit is widely adored by anime fans worldwide.
But when it comes to Celestia’s personality, she’s a relatively calm, collected, and cunning character by nature. She is a master manipulator, which shows her capabilities of being logical and intelligent. Her manipulation skills are unmatched, and her intelligence is also evident in numerous cases throughout the series.
She’s one of the well-written characters who is the perfect definition of an ISTP person becoming a total psychopath.
7. Akiko Yosano (Bungou Stray Dogs)
Akiko Yosano is a feminist and a healer in the Bungo Stray Dogs series. She’s a young woman with straight, dark hair cut into a bob. She wears a white shirt with a black skirt and stockings, which makes her look like a pure professional. Yosano is a capable doctor, a feminist, and a calm and collected person. But deep down, she cares about her teammates, making her a great ISTP anime character.
“Aikiko is likely an ISTP personality type as she values the importance of human life.”
6. Shinya Kogami (Psycho-Pass)
Shinya Kogami is a tactical advisor with a past tied closely to serving as a mercenary in foreign countries. He is also the main protagonist in the first season. Kogami is of average male height with a muscular build and is in his 30s. He is a skilled detective with a sharp mind, which makes him solve cases quickly. His abilities have led him to become an inspector and head office. Even through his capabilities, he doesn’t like many people around him.
Shinya displays traits commonly associated with the ISTP personality type, such as logical thinking, tolerance, and kindness.
5. Sherlock Holmes (Moriarty of The Patriot)
Sherlock Holmes is the arch-nemesis of William James Moriarty and a consulting detective. He has dark blue shoulder-length hair, usually held back in a ponytail. He also wears a navy blue suit with a white shirt with a few buttons undone. While on the surface, he’s an eccentric person, his analysis skills make him a perfect ISTP character. He is, in fact, very logical, avoids social interaction, and likes to live in his bubble.
I think Sherlock Holmes is one of the most fantastic characters， with his calm demeanor and the ability to surprise everyone with his quick-thinking skills.
4. Guts (Berserk)
Known as the black swordsman, Gut is a former mercenary and the strongest warrior in pursuing his true potential. He’s a tall, muscular, and well-built swordsman, often found in his badass armor, which he uses to fight some of the most vicious enemies and demons. He’s socially awkward, but deep down, he cares about his teammates and always helps them whenever they need him.
I think Guts is one of the best-written characters in the history of anime because he remains uncommon yet the coolest among the familiar main characters.
3. Roy Mustang (FullMetal Alchemist)
The Flame Alchemist is an officer in the military who is often one of the most capable characters from the series FullMetal Alchemist. Roy has dark hair, a clean-shaved face, and a formal, classy military uniform.
Personality-wise, Roy is someone who is always in his bubble. While most of his peers think he’s a total narcissist, it’s not true. He’s a devoted commander who doesn’t like many friends but loves caring for his loved ones.
I think the trauma Roy has been through justifies why he’s so careful. He’s still a fantastic leader and someone I adore.
2. Light Yagami (Death Note)
Light Yagami is a twisted psychopathic killer, but that’s objective. He had such a logical brain that he decided to kill off every criminal to make the world a better place. He stands at an above-average height and wears a tan suit and tie after school. Similar to his father, Light Yagami has a heightened sense of justice. He uses the Death Note to kill criminals and cleanse the world.
My thoughts of Light is that he’s genuinely a psychopath, but he wasn’t always like that. He used to be socially awkward, but it all changed after receiving Death Note. I think power corrupts someone, and Light Yagami is a prime example.
1. Krul Tepes (Seraph of the End)
Krul Tepes is the third progenitor amongst the Vampires and someone everyone despises in and outside the anime world. As the highest-ranking member of the Vampires, she aims to destroy all humanity so they can rule.
She’s a young-looking girl with an appetite figure and wears a cute dress that further compliments her cuteness. But aside from being a Vampire, Krul is quite logical and carries out her duties with sheer discipline, making her a great ISTP anime character.
I think Krul is quite a complex character but overall ruthless and pragmatic. Regarding her vampire people, she can be considered a heroine, but I feel she’s just a manipulative vampire who is there for her self-interest.
And that concludes our list of some of ISTP Anime Characters! But there are still common questions. So, let’s address some of them!
Yes, of course! The whole debate of protagonists and antagonists is objective. There are many characters like Machi from Hunter x Hunter. While an antagonist in the series, she still cares about her teammates and is kind, logical, and tolerant in many ways.
ISTP is one of the few personality types that have a mysterious aura. They seem unapproachable and weird but don’t always have this aura. They are understanding and kind and have much fun with their friends.
The ISTP personality isn’t gender-specific. Many ISTP female characters, like Annie Leonhart from Attack on Titan and Touka from Tokyo Ghoul, are highly praised.
Yes, ISTP characters can become role models because they are independent and self-sufficient, action-oriented, logical and analytical, and lastly, they are flexible to the situations.
