DIY Merida Costume Guide

Because of her interests and personality, Merida and the queen have a strained relationship; her mother wants her daughter to live a traditional princess lifestyle that Merida rejects. Merida contests that with her desire to live as she pleases and break away from her destiny of being yet another princess in a high tower.

Dressing like Merida is as simple as putting together a basic Merida costume. Recreate Merida’s looks with Red Long Curly Wig, Floor-Length Dress and Quiver, and Brown Boots. Then, accessorize yourself with Merida Inspired Pendant. Don’t forget to get Wooden Bow and Arrow Set and ready to shoot like Princess Merida.

Merida Cosplay Costume

When you look at Merida, a few things stand out at first. Perhaps the most iconic thing about Merida’s physical appearance is her hair. Merida is known for her bright orange, thick head of hair that is overflowing with curls. To ensure you don’t mess up what is arguably her most important feature, you should start with her wig and build the rest of the cosplay around that. Her greenish-blue dress can be found at any thrift store, or you can buy one online. Just make sure it is ankle length and has long sleeves.

To top off the dress, you’ll need a tan belt to war around her waist. You will also need a pair of light brown boots to match the belt and tie together her ensemble. Accessorize your Merida costume with an arrow necklace, and then turn your attention to her weapon. Merida fights with a bow and arrow, so you’ll need to track down a costume version of this weapon. You’ll also want to find a quiver for the arrows that you can wear around.

About Merida From Brave

Merida is a princess in the loosest sense of the word. All of the typical princess activities and a sweet demeanor that most royal young women have–it is absent in Princess Merida. Instead of living a pampered princess life, she instead prefers to live as one of the guys. She loves outdoor activities like archery, playing, and riding her horse. This is something that dismays her mother, the queen. Her mother would prefer Merida live as another princess would. But Merida cannot be stopped or slowed, headstrong as she goes her own way.

Her stubborn and outgoing personality makes this tomboy one that many young women look up to. She bravely goes after everything she wants in life, no matter what others say. Merida plans her own adventures and strives toward her own goals, no matter who tries to get in her way. Determined to live how she wants to live instead of how she is told to live. Merida’s rebellion sets her down an adventurous path.
